What was the last cool thing you did?

This weekend I did one of the coolest things I've ever done - I did a flashmob!!

For those who don't know a flashmob is a group of people who assemble suddenly in a public place, perform an act for a brief time (usually a dance), then disperse. Trust me when I say it's one of the most awesome things you can ever do.

I did it along with people from my company as a way of introducing ourselves to one of our clients. Quite an original idea, I must say. This is how it works: people are hanging around at a public place doing their thing, then all of a sudden you hear music. One person randomly breaks into a dance, then a few others join in, while people around are gobsmacked and have no idea what's going on! Then the remaining people join at short intervals until everyone who's part of the mob has joined in. And when it's over, people disperse in all directions like nothing happened. Oh, it's awesome!!!

Cars honked at us, people shouted out to us, passers by stopped and started filming. The Daily Telegraph even tweeted about it.

We danced to 'Can you feel it (MJ), 'Just Dance' (Lady Gaga), 'Fireworks' (Katy Perry) and 'Dynamite' (Taio Cruz). My favorite part was being able to do some of Michael Jackson's signature moves, such as the "Thriller walk" and the pelvic thrusts. Unfortunately, the crotch grab was dropped at the last minute in favour of the pelvic thrust given we were doing it for a client, but 30 women doing MJ's "crotch grab" in the middle of a street would've been pretty awesome I think.

We had so much fun practising at Hyde Park before the final act. The English Junior Football Team was playing nearby and about 20 of them came over and danced with us. And when we started doing the "Thriller" walk, they went "Oh, is this from thrilla?" Gorgeous!

All I'm trying to say is, flashmobs are a fabulous way to spend a Saturday morning. I'm so going to do it again. We're planning to do a Janet Jackson flashmob on the day she performs in Sydney, and am already looking for some MJ tribute flashmobs happening in Sydney that I can be a part of.

Since my video hasn't been uploaded yet, I'll leave you guys with a couple of really cool flashmobs I've found on YouTube:

When Girls Just Wanna Have Fun

Hanging out with girls can be the most fun. Boys can simply never match up :)

I went for a karaoke night with two of my girl friends yesterday at this new pub/lounge in town. I must admit I expected a great deal out of it, but that's b/c I'd recently been to an awesome karaoke night in Bangalore.

Well, what can I say except that I should've known better. As it turned out, our DJ, who incidentally came from Bangalore, claimed to be the "best karaoke DJ in India" and went by the tagline of "software engineer turned heartware entrepreneur" had left his flash drive with all his English songs somewhere. So what we were left with were really sad Bollywood songs such as 'raat kali ek khwab mein aayi' and 'pyaar deewana hota hai', which are great songs to hear when you want to have a quiet evening at home but not stuff you want to sing at karaokes. But we had no choice other than to make the most of what we had since we'd already paid a rather high cover charge.

The three of us started singing songs on stage. To put things in perspective, I never sing at karaokes b/c I can't sing to save my life. I don't even sing in the bathroom! But there was no other way to enjoy our evening. We sang songs such as 'tu tu hai wahi', 'roop tera mastana', 'kajrare' and 'desi girls'. I'm sure the other people there thought we were tripping on some really good stuff b/c we were volunteering to sing the most number of songs! But sometimes things can be so bad that they become fun in their own way. And we did end up having a great time, inspite of the DJ who kept snatching our mike away in the middle of songs to sing himself. Thank God for the unlimited alcohol!

Later Alligator!

Hi Mom! What’re you doing?
I’m at the parlor getting my hair colored. What are you doing?
Not much, I’m at home.
Listen I can’t really talk now. Can I call you later?
Sure mum. Bye

Hi Mom! What’re you doing?
I’m out having lunch with some friends. Where are you?
Oh, what fun! I’m home…
Listen beta, can I call you later?
Sure. Bye.

Hi Mom! What’re you doing?
I’m at a friend’s place. What are you doing?
Nothing mom, getting bored at home.
Don’t get bored at home. Go out somewhere! I’ll call you later, ok?
Ok mom. Bye.

Hi Mom! What’re you doing?
Papa & I are at K uncle’s place for dinner. What are you doing?
I’m at home having sad home food.
Home food is healthy. It’s not good to eat out so frequently. You guys eat our very frequently as it is. Listen beta, I’ll call you later, ok?
Yeah mom, sure.

Hi Mom! What are you doing?
I’m out for coffee with some colleagues. What are you doing?
Nothing. Where’s dad?
He’s gone to meet his friends. Listen beta, I’ll call you later.
OK mom.

Sigh....

Since when has my mother become this social butterfly? Shouldn't I be the one doing the party hopping & lunching with friends kind of thing? Since when has my mom's life become so happening? Isn’t she supposed to be there to talk to me whenever I need her? Is she supposed to go “later, alligator” on me??

Getting into my Sweats as I Type

Hi people!

Genelia D'Souza went to the gym today. So did Preity Zinta. Arjun Rampal played 2 hours of tennis in the hot Bombay sun and put up pictures of his sweaty self for us to drool over. And I'm sure everyone else worth their salt has worked out today too since they are all fitness-conscious people (weight-conscious is so passe, you know), motivated (with truckloads of money, yeah sure!) and disciplined.

So I've decided I need to go to the gym too. Today. NOW. The gym is calling out to me. I'm feelin' it. Totally. Hell, yeah! 45 minutes on the treadmill...can life get more exciting?

But before I go, let's play a fun game....Pick a list of 3-4 actors/actresses and write a line about them. It HAS to be bitchy & fun, OK? Not nice 'n' sweet. 'Coz that's passe too, you know? And boring...and sleep inducing.

Here's my list:

Deepika Padukone: All hype, no substance

Katrina Kaif: Pretty but useless

Kareena Kapoor: Majorly over-rated

Aishwarya Rai: Never seen more plastic on anyone than her. Not even on the obsessed-with-facelifts-and-boob-implants Californians.

What's on your list?

Sleeping with the Celebrity

The other day I was watching the episode of 'Friends' where Ross tries to hit on Isabella Rosselini, in the presence of Rachel. When Monica asks Rachel is she's going to let Ross do that, Rachel says she's just sorry she doesn't have a bowl of popcorn to give her company while she enjoys the show.

Many of us have a celebrity that we would sleep with inspite of being in a relationship/ being married, IF given an opportunity. This is particularly true for men as they have this amazing ability to compartmentalize love & sex into neat little boxes, not to be mixed with one another. To be very honest, I totally envy them for this. If women too learnt the art of compartmentalization, we'd be a much happier species.

Anyhow, for 'A' that celebrity is Megan Fox. The fact that she's bi-sexual is even more of a turn on, apparently. I suspect he thinks he can have a threesome with her, not realizing that the third person in the threesome could be another guy!!

Who would I sleep with, if I could? Well, there's a tie between two...three...four...no wait, five men! Brad Pitt, George Clooney, Hugh Grant, Jude Law & Hugh Jackman. But I think I'd go for Brad Pitt in the end.

Who would you want a 'celebrity pass' to, if you could have one? And no prudish answers please...b/c we'd just know that you're faking it :P

A Care Package In the Making

‘The Boy’ is ill. He rarely falls ill. This is the first time I’m seeing him so sick in the past one & a half years of knowing him (it really has been that long!!). I reckon he’ll be out of action for a while, so I’ve decided to make him a care package.

Have you ever made a care package for anyone? I picked this concept up from my friends in college whose moms would send them care packages every now & then (Americans are big on care packages!!)

Of course, it’s more fun making care packages for girls since you can put in things like nail polish, lip balm, lip gloss, shower gel, bath oils, body butter, cosmetics….you know, the girly stuff. So, after racking my brains to come up with things a boy wouldn’t crinkle his nose at (given that he isn’t in the Hot Wheels, G.I.Joe, He-Man phase anymore) here’s what’s going into my care package for a boy…

  1. A car magazine – He loves them
  2. Cookie Man cookies!!
  3. Chocolates
  4. Gems – The candy, not the stones
  5. Hot cocoa
  6. A coffee mug
  7. Canned chicken soup
  8. Maggi
  9. Act popcorn
  10. A bottle of Starbucks Frappucino
  11. A bottle of Snapple
  12. Flavored cough drops
  13. Gummy Bears & Sour Green Apple Strings
  14. Stationery
  15. Crayons – So what if he's 28 years old? They'll make him smile!! :)

I can imagine how much fun I’m going to have putting this basket together! Even though I’m sniffling myself thanks to an annoying cold.

Got any suggestions, y’all? You’re free to drop them in but remember….it's a boy!! :)
